I saw over at KiXtart.org Chris S. use $System.Icon.FromString. I'm wondering how to correctly use this? I have tried using the base64 tool to do it but cannot get it to work. I can't find it in the documentation either. Does anyone have any pointers?

Oops, you caught my use of an unsupported method. The icon.FromString thing was implemented from a suggestion I made to Shawn and was a pre-pre-cursor to Base64.

You should really try to get Base64 working, as FromString isn't really supported. Is there anything we can help with?

On reflection and at the risk of sound stupid ... I guess what I don't understand is how to create the bitmap strip of icons that is then fed into the utility. How would you suggest I create the strip? ie do you extract the bitmaps from icons and then use another utility to create the strip? Or do you somehow manually create it?

I manually create them, using mspaint ... I first set the image size to 16 pixels high, by some multiple of 16 pixels wide. Then I paint the background some oddball color, like magenta. Then manually cut and paste the images into their respective 16x16 "slot" ... sometimes I mark the beginning of each "slot" with a black pixel point, then remove them when finished. These markers help when copy/pasting positioning the images.

When your done, you have yourself a strip of images.

Hmmm, okay I'm a little late in the game playing with this BASE64 stuff and I also tried Jooel's encrypter/decrypter but guess I'm missing something on how to properly use them.

Jooel's exe
http://www.kixforms.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1160&highlight=base64

The skin.kx example returns an error with KiX32 4.52 beta 2
ERROR : script version not supported [C:\A\Download\skin.kx]!

Is there a size limitation or file format limitation?
I took another working example calc.kix and replaced the image information with the output of BASE64 with mine and the script won't even open and run the file.

Nah Ron,

that error is caused by the changed tokenize engine Ruud implemented in Beta 2 ... skin.kx was tokenized with a version before Wink

Yeah, I figured as much for that one Jochen, but I can't seem to get any of my examples to work with the BASE64 so I assume I'm doing something wrong or the images I'm trying to use are too large maybe?

What are the requirements / limitations of this image format?

I can't believe I get to answer a question from Doc....

The base64 string has the same limitation in size as strings in KiXtart of 32000 characters.

I have many time done this "string"+"string"+"string" to work around that limitation.

yes, there is no limitation other than what is the weird issue of the kixtart tokenizer.
it has the limitation of 32k chars even when the script engine itself doesn't
thus, like said, you can go around that by using the "" + "" tweak.

Thanks Gargoyle and Jooel

It was right in my face and never thought about it.

All is working fine now. Working on the graphic now which is taking me a long time since I'm NOT a graphics artist by any means.

But hey, fun to play with.
