you can also try binding the client and server to your wksta hostname, like @WKSTA.

ja, the problem with all my testcodes was that I used @ipaddress0 which had ". 3" as the last field. doh.

so, I can bind to "universe"?

ja, the socket api aint to forgiving when it comes to "malformed" ip addresses - i was chasing a bug where i had just a single leading space in the address, and it no like it.

I updated the Socket Pack demo scripts, specifically the server script, to hold sockets in the Sockets collection, and then properly release them on disconnect - the count of current connections is displayed in the statusbar.

Universal binding is legal assuming you know what the implications are. It binds the service to all interfaces so you have to be more careful with this on a multi-homed system.

I can't think of a problem with it right off. Especially if you only have one NIC on the server.

well, you said it might have problem.
say, you have gameserver, you most likely only have 1 nic.

if you happened to have some critical job server with multiple nics, you would probably have them connected to same network, thus, no problem there.

only thing I can imagine is a router/nat server or server serving to different networks separately and you wanted to only give the other half the access to the socket-server.
and that problem is normally solved by closing that port on desired adapters.

Painfull lesson-o-da-day:

Sockets returned by winwock Accept have the same blocked setting as the listener socket used to accept it ... so for example, a blocked listener returns blocked sockets, and a non-blocking listener returns non-blocking sockets ... hmmm
