Yeah - Microsoft probably has fixed some weak code that has crippled it or maybe they introduced a new bug into it with on of their fixes.

Difficult to regression test 5 million + applications

Hmm.

Ok. Does that mean the end for KixForms sockets then? I certainly hope not as I think it's an excellent area for exploration.

I know that Shawn is very busy with 'Work' and has not had much time for much else, and I am grateful for the time he finds to help us out as it is, So I would not get your hopes to high for a while.

I see..okay.

Do you have any recommendations for a COM based control that can be used by kix? Someone mentioned w3sockets in another post, but there is no documentation for how to use it and the support forums are a joke.]

Thanks,

I've just been doing some more testing.

Kixforms Sockets do work on the live release of Kixforms, i.e 2.30.45 but not on the latest development build of KixForms, 2.46.55. Something obviously has changed in between these builds to stop it working.

Just a polite bump to ask if there's any plans to continue with sockets?

Hi Shawn,

Basically looking at the socket development kit download, the chat server/client and also the echo server client. It seems to work fine with the current live release of KF but not the latest .55 dev build, which has all the cool features! So kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place at the mo!

Thanks,

Andy P.

Still no progress on the Build 55 front concerning Sockets? I bumped into the same problem, Build 45 works fine, but experiences some hickups if i connect, send data en disconnect multiple times.

Shawn, could you please see if there are differences between Build 45/55 or maybe the sample script should be changed?

I removed the checks (if socket and so on), and the messages disappear but the application keeps working. I wil post some code as soon as i have some working KiXMessenger code (real KiX code, no use of net send).

I was looking to do something like this as well, since Vista doesn't support net send, and it is more complex to make a solution that will send to and from XP and Vista

So Is my thought correct that if I had a console that would go IPaddr by IPAddr, that I could socket a text message to them... assuming I had a client app running a "listener"

Does this work in the latest kixforms.net?

Yep. Shawn has added some samples to his socket scripts, and i used them to start with a client/server listener app.

The basics of my little app work, but now i'm thinking about:
- what to communicate (the more i communicate the slower the server part)
- how to present it to the client (GUI part)
- how to tombstone client entries at the server part
- how to query the server for clients data (logon name, department, site, wildcards)

For now i don't have anything to present due to time problems (to busy with other things).
