Code:

break on
$rc=setoption('novarsinstrings','on')
$rc=setoption('wrapateol','on')

$objSystem = CreateObject('Kixtart.System')
$test = 'this is version ' +$objSystem.version

? 'test = '+$test

will result in an empty variable $test.

Question: Why does the system namespace not have a version attached to it? As it is the topmost KiXforms object I'd expect it to have a version/build number.

I was thinking the same thing. It is odd to me that the form object has the versioning properties and not the system object.

Even if $objSystem.version does not return anything, the 'this is version ' portion or the string concatenation should still exist. I would say that this is a KiX bug.

I was looking at Versioning just before the release of build 42. Your all right of course, the system namespace needs a version property. The reason I didn't just slap it in at the last minute was because dotnet has something called a version object (lol) that looks like this:

System.Environment.Version

and the version object has the following integer properties:

Major
Minor
Revision
Build

so if you wanted to query the build you would just say:

if $System.Environment.Version.Build = 43

endif

Fair enough, but I thought this version object thing a bit convoluted and overkill for KF so basically passed on it for this first namespace release. Think probably a straight System.Version property should suffice ?

Yes, System.Version would suffice. However, why is the rest of the text string being deleted. Wouldn't the system.version currently return an empty string as it would be treated as an Expande property?

Isn't that a question for Ruud?

I identified that string cut-off thing long, long time ago to Ruud - he didn't really seem to be worried about it but imho its a bad thing. Your right about the expando thing, but since System.Version wasn't assigned to anything first, by default, it would return a null (empty) reference.
