Hi Shawn,
What a truly fantastic piece of work you've done Very Happy I am well aware of the effort you must have put into this with no other reward except knowing that you are helping others. I have a feature suggestion for you that I believe would be a great addition to making forms. It would be fantastic if we make expandable folder-like structures such as those seen in the left-hand pane of Windows Explorer. I can think of many possible applications where it would be good to be able to expand out and navigate through a directory structure or Active Directory. I'm sure this wouldn't be an easy feat however you've more than proved you're capable of such things!

Anyway thanks again and I really like your Asteroids script, it demonstrates well some of the new features!

Cheers,

Richard

BTW. Thanks must also be given to Stevie for the KiXforms designer as well. It's great help in coding complex forms for sure!

Hi Richard,

Many thanks for the positive feedback. The object you are referring to is called a TreeView and you will no doubt be pleased to hear that Shawn is planning to include it in a future release of the library.

Rod.

I excited to !!! Wink ...

Out of ALL the 42 builds of Kixforms, this was the most painfull to do and get out the door. It was one of those things where major decisions had to be made (the System namespace vs the other 100 ways of doing it - that I implemented and lived with for a time) ... and some small things mushrooming into bigger things. The decision to implement Expandos was was very personal and somewhat selfish thing on my behalf ... I love them, but realize that maybe not everyone shares my excitment.

And although I have said it before, going forward I will try to concentrate on working on a single item at one time, and publishing that - as opposed to taking on too much, and then living with long delays.

When I make a change to Kixforms, I like to live with the change for quite a while, to see how it sits ... this really can add to the release time. If something doesn't sit right then I dont want to publish it. Obviously - what sits right with me might not sit right with somebody else. So I've made the conscience decision to try and follow the dotnet model as closely as possible. I know that by doing this, we can steal the thought processes that went into making those original design decisions. I am already starting to see the payoff now - and you might see it in the next release as well - by implementing the System namespace less dependencies has been placed on the Form object.

Without giving away too much, the next release will allow one to run a script as a background process - with only a notify icon visible in the system tray ... when the icon is clicked, a Form may or may not be displayed - or maybe the Notify icon is changed to something else, or maybe the ToolTip for the icon reads differently ... but because there is no dependence on the form, the script is very lean and mean....

Anyway, sorry for rambling - just wanted to say that the next release (to me) will be very exicting as well.

-Shawn

Shawn:

Very nice release. Now I just need to find some time to actually make use of all these enhancements.

And a congrats on the documentation!

Where in the docs is the SpinButton or does it have a new "official" name?

I could be missing something but, my form icon in the upper right corner does not show when I am alt-tabing through my running apps. I could have sworn it used to.

hmmm, first "problem" with the beta I guess ... think we're going to have to bite the bullet on this one. In order to get ShowInTaskBar and many other things working with new forms, I had to change some of the internals of KF. The result is that now, no matter what icon is in the form title - the default task icon shows up in the tasklist. I just made a change though in KF to show the KF icon instead ... not sure if I can put things back to the way they were ... let me think about.

Just as long as I am not going crazy. Shocked

Do you think it is possible to sneek in multi-line tooltips?

It looks like I might have found another one. The property CheckFileExists does not appear to work for the object SaveFileDialog, but works for OpenFileDialog.

Kelly, I haven't forgot about this. Still investigating as to why this isn't working ...
