This is the first in a series of polls that will be used to determine the development path of the KiXforms library. The first question we would like to ask relates to the operating systems on which you frequently use KiXforms. Although the library is broadly designed to work with all versions of Windows from 95 onwards, there are some differences in the level of functionality between the various operating systems. This poll may be used to determine whether further work will be undertaken to provide improved support for the 'older' platforms.

Thanks,

Rod.

My enterprise currently still supports a large number of Windows 95 clients.

I typically would only use KiXforms to provide a front-end GUI to loginscript processing for Windows 95 clients. Using simple objects such as; forms, frames/groupbox, labels, picturebox, and progressbars, to provide end-user feedback while the loginscript processes. So, in that respect I would not be in favor of moving entirely away from the 9x platform.

For application development my target platforms are typically Windows 2000 and above. My typical applications are basically admin scripts that I run regularly. Having a front-end GUI provides a more user-friendly environment.

I'm in the exact same situation as Chris S. Can also add that the Win9x machines have a year or so, then they'll be gone in my case. There will be NT4 machines still spinning for a few years though I guess. In difference, I don't use any forms on 9x/NT4 clients, so I went for the 2k+ option.

We're stricky a NT 4 and above shop. No 95 or 98. Like Mats, expect our NT machines to be around for another year or two. Then jump right into XP ...

I have the same problem, some Windows 9x client that I will not be able to replace. However, I could live without KiXforms for Windows9x.

Mmmm... I'm a bit late here I know... (Only joined end of Sept.)

Anyway......

I work for local government (Education) in the UK.

We have No W9x clients on any of our corporate networks, strictly NT and above.

We are currently moving our 300 school's domains to W2K/AD, and require all NT workstations to be removed by end 2005.

Some of our schools have 3rd party supplied W9x clients that we do not allow to participate in the corporate WAN (for obvious security reasons) and require their removal as soon as the domain goes 2K .

Our corporate standard OS has been XP since Apr 2002

Please don't waste your time improving support for 'legacy' OSs if that means 'stealing' development time for improved functionallity/enhancements for current OSs
