In the game that I am currently writing I have MessageBox popping up from time to time to provide some amusment to the players.

However everytime I do a MessageBox I get a system beep as well, what is the best way to recode this section to get rid of the system beep?

One of my thoughts was to use Shawns new LED and create a new form to create a scrolling banner, but that is out of my league at this point.

Anyway's I just want to get rid of the beep, any suggestions?

What if you change the alert type to "information" or something, that might remove the beep.

Yea, thanks Lonk Wink

And it is being presented as an Informational (style 64)

Anybody want to help me make up a form to create a scrolling LED banner? That would be way cool.

Here is the code that I am currently working with... Not fancy at all.

Code:

         $a = Rnd(Ubound($Fact1))
            $LabelG.Text = $LabelG.Text + "some extra knowledge."
            $nul = MessageBox($Fact1[$a],"Little Known Facts",64)

Where $Fact1 is an array of a bunch of facts (see attached file)

Earlier in the script I preload the $Fact1 with the information found in the file.

Code:

Global $Fact1[36]
Call ".\bin\data1.dat"

Okay it won't let me add a file with .dat, so change one or the other to reflect the attached file....

Data1.kix
 Description:

Download
 Filename:  Data1.kix
 Filesize:  5.41 KB
 Downloaded:  779 Time(s)

well, this line here:

$nul = MessageBox("Test","Little Known Facts",64)

doesn't beep for me - I think Jooel was right, you should check your Control Panel because you may have beeps turned on for informationals (idk) - I think on most folks machines, it would not beep ?

Can anyone else confirm ?

Ok, I misunderstood what he was getting at - I thought he was just saying to "mute / disable / turn off" my sound card.... Embarassed

Any takers on helping me write a UDF that takes advantage of Shawns LED's to make a scrolling banner with the assiocated text?

I would think from right to left like most reader boards would be the most appropriate.

hehee yeah - that would also be the more straight-forward to write (relatively speaking I mean) - I will help - need to finish-up some work-work first though.

By way of thinking about though ... think the LedControl would have to have its own "timer" object to control the scrolling. I used the TAG property as a context store - assigned an ArrayList to it so that it would be expandable.

And I am lost at that point, hence why I would need help.

As for the timer, would it not be part of the UDF that would initiate the form for the banner?

I am already seeing where you could really have fun with something like this in lots of different scripts.

Well, your right - could do this two ways

1) Could enhance the LedControl to support text scrolling. So that the "user" of the control doesn't have to worry about it.

2) Could push the burden of scrolling the text onto the "users" shoulders.

To be honest, six half-dozen of the other - other than the fact the LEDControl wouldn't benefit from the feature.
