Does the new kixforms.Net designer 1.0.0.42 unload the kixforms.system.dll and reload a new kixforms.system.dll.

I have created an app using kixforms.Net designer version 1.0.0.41 and then upgraded to kixforms.Net designer 1.0.0.42.

The new kixforms designer works fine now but my old app keeps failing with unable to initiate Kixforms.Net.

I have created an executable file with kixforms.Net 1.0.0.41 using adminscripteditor and added the following files to the executable.

kix32.exe
kixforms.system.dll

If there is a new kixforms.system.dll that is registered with the installation of 1.0.0.42 kixforms.msi , do I have to add the new dll to my executable to get the app to work properly.

In the future what is the best way to handle kixforms.system.dll upgrades when going forward with creating apps using kixforms.system.dll registered assemblies.

hmmm, I will give my two cents on this and hopefully Benny will chime in anytime.

As you know, there is no Kixforms.NET Designer install package per se. KFD just kinda "rides along" with any new release of kf.net. Every new KF.NET package is a new version of KF.NET. But not every package is a new version of KFD. Benny has only interjected a couple of new KFD releases over the 25-30 odd packages release for KF.NET.

Having said all that ... Kixforms Designer really doesn't uninstall anything. Any new Kixforms.NET package does indeed remove anything old and install new ...

What i think might be happening though is that there is some kinda BUG in the KFD version checking - and only Benny can answer that. Or maybe something new or changed in KF.NET did indeed break something. idk at this point.

Come to think of - I have been tweaking the assembly version properties over the past few new releases ... so indeed yeah.

xtec,
Welcome to KiXforms, as you have probably figured out Shawn is the creator of your newest best friend and mine, KiXforms. Shawn has created a .msi for the installation of ‘KiXforms.System.dll’, ‘KiXforms Designer .Net’ is my attempt to help the new user of ‘KiXforms.Net’ learn how to code for forms and maybe make life a little less complicated. It is a KiXforms.Net script that has been packaged with ASE and up to this point has been hitching a ride in Shawn’s .msi. Future versions of KFD will be packaged in its own .msi. With that all being said.

On to your more important statement, ‘The new KiXforms Designer works fine now but my old app keeps failing with unable to initiate Kixforms.Net.’

Could you post your old app so that Shawn and I can look it over?
